  8.   Why another file search program?
  9.  
  10.     Actually Locate is NOT another search program but a front end for
  11.     FIND and UPDATEDB an excellent CLI only search program written by
  12.     ???  (sorry... looked for the docs for this but they have long
  13.     ago fallen by the way side.  Thanks to whoever wrote FIND and
  14.     UPDATEDB!!!)

  16.     With two hard hard drives and 9 partitions it 'was' a royal pain
  17.     to search through each and every partion one at a time for a file
  18.     I had misplaced.  Not to mention that searching all the dirs and
  19.     subdirs took what seemed like an eternity!

  21.   First things First:
  22.  
  23.     Simply unarc the file and place the programs in their respective
  24.     directories. C: files in C: etc.  You may place Locate in any
  25.     Dir you choose.
  26.  
  27.     IMPORTANT- You will need to create a directory named FindDB and
  28.     assign FindDB: to it.  I suggest you add a line similar to the
  29.     following to your user-startup.

  31.     ASSIGN FindDB: work:FindDB
  32.  
  33.     Unlike V1.0 LocateV2 requires the CanDo.Library to run properly.
  34.  
  35.     When first running Locate you will need to update(create) a data
  36.     base for FIND to use.  To do this simply enter all volumes you
  37.     would like the database to contain.  For example:

  39.     dh0: dh1: dh2: dh3: etc. etc.
  40.  
  41.     NOTE each volume must be seperated by a space.
  42.  
  43.     Next click on the UPDATE button... and be prepared to wait
  44.     a while.  The Author of FIND and FINDDB suggested that the data
  45.     base be updated once per week, a suggestion that makes a lot of
  46.     sense.  Updating the DataBase can take from 10-20 minutes depending
  47.     on the number of volumes you include, their size and the number
  48.     of directories and files included on/in the volume/partion.

  50.     However when the DataBase is created you will have the FASTEST
  51.     file/dir search utility I have seen on the Amiga!  And what's more
  52.     there will be NO NEED TO ENTER A PATH TO SEARCH!!!

  54.     To find a file or directory once the database is complete type in
  55.     the pattern and click on the LOCATE button, you will have an
  56.     entire listing of all Directories and Files that contain any or
  57.     all of your specified search patterns within 5 seconds!

  59.   Using LocateV2:

  61.     THE BUTTONS-
  62.  
  63.     [LOCATE] - will locate any pattern in the database based on
  64.     your input.  For example: typing, red in the input box and clicking
  65.     locate will find... withered, red, redmond, coloured, etc.
  66.     Locate will find all Directories and Files that match the pattern.
  67.  
  68.     [UPDATE] - will update the database according to your input.
  69.     If the input box is blank and you click the UPDATE button the
  70.     database will be updated according to the default set in the
  71.     locate.prefs file.

  73.     [PRINT] - print the current output to prt:

  75.     [PREFS] - clicking this button will pull up the default 'edit'or
  76.     and the locate.prefs file found in s:

  78.     Prefs lines are:
  79.     1. Default path (all volumes you wish to include in the database)
  80.     2. Default graphics viewer
  81.     3. Default animation viewer
  82.     4. Default sound player
  83.     5. Default mod player
  84.     6. Default text/hyper-text viewer
  85.     7. Default text editor

  87.     NOTE: ALL default viewers and players must be located in your
  88.     Path!

  90.   Locate and View/Play/Run:

  92.     You may also use Locate to do more than just 'locate' a directory
  93.     or file.  You may also, run a program, view a graphic or
  94.     animation, listen to a sound file, play a music module, view a
  95.     text or AmigaGuide file, or edit a text file.

  97.     Once you have inputted the required pattern you wish to find and
  98.     clicked the LOCATE button, simply click on the file you wish to
  99.     perform the 'action' on, (The file will appear in the input box.)
  100.     and then click on the desired action button,
  101.     [RUN] [GRAPHIC] [ANIMATION] [SOUND] [MODULE] [TEXT] [EDIT]
  102.     and the desired action will be carried out.
